To be perfectly honest, Valentine's Day isn't my thing. In the space of 6 weeks we have Christmas, Valentine's Day, my birthday and 2 of the kids' birthdays. V-day ends up pretty low on the totem pole.
BUT. By some twist of fate, we ended up with a whole night sans kids this last weekend AND we have child care for the Saturday before V-day. Not gonna pass up that opportunity! I made one of my most favorite stunning skirts EVER... a basic circle skirt. I used the Patterns for Pirates Sweetheart skirt and added a waistband instead of attaching it to a bodice. It's made a beautiful foiled scuba I snagged at Joann's.
The top is a sumptuous stretch velvet. I mashed the Made for Mermaids Mama Joy and the Patterns for Pirates Sunshine Dress - and then cropped it.
I'm really digging the crop top with the high waist look. Makes my waist look smaller and it's an absolutely fabulous trendy way to wear a crop.
I had 3 women ask me where I got my outfit. I explained I made it. I now have 3 new Facebook friends. Oh! And my husband likes it too. Wink, wink.
Ladies. Hold the phone. Do you like my 'jeans'? Because they're NOT JEANS! WHAAAT?! They are French Terry and these are the fabulous, awesome new Zen Pants Pattern by 5 out of 4 Patterns.
Sweatpants that look like jeans?! It's the holy grail of pants, yes? How did I do it? Well, I used a heavy weight stretch French Terry in a denim color. The real look is in the topstitching, though. I used jeans thread. Yes! It's a real thing! I used it in my regular sewing machine and in my coverstitch. I won't lie. It took a LOT of time. I cursed my coverstitch many a time. But it was SO worth it!
I went balls to the wall with these. Every detail, every option... cargo pocket with bias tape and decorative stitching, snaps, rivets...
...even the stitching on the pockets.
I have many more pairs in my head. A more yoga type pair with supplex and no back pockets. A dressier pair with a supple ponte. A fun pair with floral scuba... I die. Go get the pattern HERE! And then join us in the 5 out of 4 Patterns Facebook group and we'll help you make them!
I don't know about you, but I am up to my eyeballs in Christmas sewing. I KNOW I have a party coming up and I am always having the last minute crisis of what the heck am I going to WEAR?!
Welcome to Red Stitch Blue Stitch! I'm Rachelle, a Work At Home Mom of two kids. I sew every day and take great joy in creating garments that fit. This blog is a lot about sewing (I test patterns for some amazing designers as well as sewing fabric for a few lovely fabric groups), techniques and tutorials.
